Malibu stretches 27 miles along the coast, yet still somehow manages to feel like a small town. Each local Malibu cafe, restaurant and shop offers something different. Whether you’re celebrating Dry January this month or simply needing a cozy pick-me-up while you’re staying at Malibu Beach Inn, we’ve rounded up the most beloved Malibu coffee spots that will make you feel like a seasoned local. Several cafes are known for locally sourced or organic coffee and matcha or other healthy beverages that will give you the energy to enjoy this beautiful part of Southern California.

Caffe Luxxe

Swap a glass of wine for hand-crafted coffee at Caffe Luxxe, located right by Carbon Beach. The cafe has a northern Italian-inspired menu, featuring hand-crafted espresso coffee, a coffee kombucha, drip coffee, and pastries. They also sell several blends, which you can purchase and take home, with proceeds benefiting various communities, local and abroad. The shop was founded by two friends who wanted to create a Malibu cafe that you could spend hours in, and the duo certainly accomplished that goal.

Coffee and Pastries

Joules and Watts Coffee

Micro-roaster Joules and Watts Coffee specializes in single-origin coffee, coffee that comes from a single producer, crop, or region in one country. Coffee connoisseurs consider this the purest form of coffee, containing only the highest-quality beans. They source from Guatemala, Colombia, Ethiopia, and El Salvador, to name a few, and ship both nationwide and offer an in-person experience at their Malibu cafe.

Saloon Coffee

Located on-site at Calamigos Ranch, Saloon Coffee embodies the spirit of California and the American West, with its ranch-style architecture and menu. The ranch, founded in 1947, is home to a resort, restaurant, and coffee shop. Saloon Coffee prides itself on sustainability, including limiting material waste and the overuse of natural resources. In addition to drip coffee and tea, come to Saloon for its signature lattes. The Ebeneezer Scrooge (cayenne and chai with dark chocolate and espresso) and the Rose Pistachio Latte are local favorites. Calamigos is an iconic Malibu spot, so grab a cup of joe and walk the beautiful grounds.

Le Café de la Plage

Not just a coffee shop, Le Café de la Plage is the spot to go for a healthy breakfast or indulgent ice cream, as well as some great coffee. The owners hail from Provence, France and have French-inspired coffee using Intelligentsia. Enjoy coffee from their French Press or an incredible latte. We’re partial to the Yin Yang, coffee infused with activated charcoal or the beautiful Rose Latte with almond milk. Pair it with a freshly baked French pastry, beignet, tartine, Quiche Lorraine, or a goat cheese omelet. The ice cream, however, steals the show. Opt for a dairy-free scoop (we love the Rose-Raspberry Lychee flavor) or indulgent salted caramel. There are also pints to take home and savor.
