Malibu and Southern California come to life as the weather warms, and social calendar suddenly start to fill up. Between outdoor concerts, shows, and fitness classes, there are many events to choose from. Below are this season’s must-do activities,

Commotion by the Ocean

The first Saturday of the month

Popular local wine bar and patio Rosenthal Winery, which features arguably one of the best views in town, hosts its monthly Drag Show the first Saturday of every month starting at 12 p.m. Hosted by Tiffany Vogue and her group of friends, it’s the perfect post-brunch destination for a girls’ trip.

Healing With Nature:
Immersive Outdoor Meditation

Saturday, May 21

Popular yoga and meditation studio The Mindry also hosts a number of events throughout the year. In the summer, it offers guided meditative nature walks on Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Held in a different location each week, the outdoor meditation walks will leave attendees feeling connected, uplifted, grounded, and at ease.

Herbal Tea Ceremony
& Tea Blending

Saturday, May 28

Led by herbalist, Reiki master, and dowser Marguerite Nesteruk, this tea tasting and blending experience will educate participants about the powerful effects of medicinal plants. The event will be hosted at yoga and meditation studio The Mindry from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 28.

Yoga on the Mountain
at King Gillette Ranch

Saturdays, starting May 28

For guests who want a change of scenery from beach yoga at Malibu Beach Inn, the Santa Monica Mountains Fund runs outdoor yoga classes at King Gillette Ranch a few miles inland at 10 a.m. every Saturday, starting May 28. The class is free, but attendees must register in advance via Eventbrite.

Jenny Scheinman in Kannapolis: A Moving Portrait

Friday, June 3

Composer and violinist Jenny Scheinman is the star attraction of this concert and screening held at 8 p.m. June 3 at the Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts at Pepperdine University. Filmmaker H. Lee Waters documented the effect of the Great Depression in small towns between 1936 and 1942, and the event includes a screening of his film Kannapolis: A Moving Portrait accompanied by Scheinman’s live soundtrack.

CineMalibu

Saturday, July 23 and Saturday, August 20

The popular CineMalibu outdoor movies will return this summer to Malibu Bluffs Park. Held on the third Saturday of July and August, the city of Malibu screens family-friendly movies (Luca and Sing 2 this summer) starting at sunset. Popular local food trucks set up at the park, and there are organized activities in the hour leading up to the movie screening.

Outdoor Concerts
at Trancas Country Market

Held throughout the summer

Though it hasn’t officially announced, there’s a high likelihood that outdoor shopping mecca Trancas Country Market will again host local bands for outdoor concerts this summer. Stay tuned to the market’s events page for more information.
